WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO...

Mobirise

Imagine this...
a wife and mother with a communication difficulty

- she cannot tell her family she loves them, ask them how their day was or engage in social gatherings. Her little kids may think she doesn’t care, her husband may feel she loves him, she will feel isolated which may affect the whole family system.

Everyone deserves a voice.

I once had a patient who could not eat orally and relied on a feeding tube for almost a year. She walked into my office and her first words to me were,

“I’d rather die than live another day like this”.

When we explored her statement, she mentioned the social isolation she was experiencing due to not being able to eat orally. Eating is social, and in most social gathering its usually done around a table. Imagine not being able to indulge at the dinner table or at a family braai.

We only realize the importance of something as simple as swallowing safely until its lost.

I met an elderly lady who had a stroke 4 years prior and was never referred to Speech Therapy. She was nonverbal and had experienced so much trauma during COVID-19 that she could not express it.

Imagine suffering in silence in your old age.

A young patient of mine became suicidal after not being able to return to a high-paying job due to a minor Speech difficulty.

The rehab team focused so much on adapting the work environment to return to work and never considered re-evaluating the clients’ strengths, gaps, and goals.

This led to me obtaining my second qualification as a Life Coach where we aim to integrate coaching strategies in our Therapy practice that clients may continue to thrive in their personal and vocational capacity.

In my final year of studies, we did a short thesis on the quality of life of families with children on the Autistic Spectrum disorder and found that they had a lower quality of life.

We thus don’t only focus on one-on-one intervention for our neurodiverse population but also caregiver coaching as temporary or permanent disabilities affect the whole family system.

I had a coach with a severe stutter, when coaching on her skills she did not stutter, we used her strengths to improve her difficulty and therapy sessions where dancing lessons in the office! .

Our sessions are wholeheartedly client centered.

I love looking for gaps in the system and trying to fill them.

This led me to starting my private practice in 2024. We aim to offer holistic therapy and coaching for both our clients and their loved ones.

We focus on educating and uplifting.
